HOW DID I GET THERE?
Upon arrival in the UK, in 2006, my passion for languages 'translated' into community interpreting for Polish residents with limited English and for national agencies requiring a reliable fast friendly language service. I started as a PSI/Community Interpreter (voluntary position) at CAB. I was quickly able to offer my services to private clients and then gradually to firms, legal advice centres, health authorities, hospitals, courts, police stations, voluntary and charity organisations, etc.
I am thoroughly vetted, CRB'ed and DBS checked (2013) with a Home Office Counter Terrorist Check UK (2014) and a Police Clearance NPPV 3 UK (2012).
I offer interpreting in person and over the phone, translating, transcribing, proofreading and language identifying. I pay attention to detail, client's wishes and deadlines. I deal daily with confidential and sensitive issues the only way I know: professionally and courteously. As a member of the National Register of Public Service Interpreters I fully comply with the Code of Professional Conduct. I enjoy learning further and invest in my Continuing Professional Development, both formal/structured and informal /self-directed. I have recently completed a 1-day intensive booster workshop in Conference Interpreting and shared a finger licking lunch with like-minded professionals. What a joy !
I am available for freelance and job opportunities. How can I help you ?
I am a Registered Interpreter (NRPSI), and a professional Translator (Member of CIOL) which means that I am qualified to interpret/translate from English into Polish, and from Polish into English, with a proven record of more than 5000 hrs of face-to-face interpreting (court /police /probation/ local government/ legal/medical/private clients). I hold an MA in English from the University of Lodz, Poland. I was trained to nationally recognised standards at the University of Surrey, Guildford, UK, and awarded the Postgraduate Diploma in Business Translation with Interpreting, special interest - Public Service Interpreting (2010). I was also assessed by IoL Educational Trust and successfully completed the Metropolitan Police Test with 4 distinctions.
I am currently preparing to take the ILEC (International Legal English Certificate) Cambridge exam with a deep conviction all this sweat will broaden my knowledge of the legal environment. Do keep your fingers crossed for me !
I speak French and Spanish, too, but I am not qualified to do jobs in these languages, though it helps whilst travelling and exploring fruit/vegetable markets around the world and making friends with local people.
On a typical day you may find me speed solving a Rubik's cube, reading Grisham novels or hanging out with my fellow Interpreters in court rooms, police stations and other public venues around the UK. I am pretty sure I was born with a dictionary in my hand and a passion for crossing language barriers. Educated in Poland, before the Berlin Wall came crumbling down, I learned Russian at school and then discovered that English was much easier; I travelled extensively, lived in Madrid for a year, learned a local accent (Castillian Spanish), lived in Switzerland for three years, added another language to my repertoire (French), moved back to Poland, graduated from University of Lodz, went on to teach English to students at a Secondary School and a Teacher Training College, learnt all the coursebooks by heart, got restless, and left for the United Kingdom. Now I work in London, live in Surrey and meet fantastic people every day and working exclusively with the best clients !!!
